The HANS device angle means the angle between the fork section of the HANS device (the part against the driver's chest and shoulders) and the collar section of the HANS device (the vertical part behind the driver's helmet). The correct HANS angle is selected so that the collar section is at a 60-90 degree angle relative to horizontal when the driver is in the driving position and the belts are tightened. (See the illustration in the product images.)
The device may lightly touch the helmet, but if the collar section angle is over 90 degrees relative to horizontal, meaning the upper part of the collar points forward, consider reducing the HANS angle, for example from 30 to 20 degrees. The collar section may also lightly touch the seat or headrest, but if it presses uncomfortably against the seat and/or its angle is below 60 degrees from horizontal, consider increasing the HANS angle, for example from 20 to 30 degrees.
HANS device angles are usually 10-40 degrees. In saloon cars, rally, folkrace, circuit racing etc., a 20 degree angle is almost always used. The HANS size should be selected by fit and feel. Several different sizes can fit the same driver well.
NOTE! HANS fitting should preferably be done while seated in a seat with an angle as close as possible to the actual driving position.
